molo softwall installation

designed by Stephanie Forsythe and Todd MacAllen for molo - @studio_molo - represented by Grape in Scandinavia

Thank you for your purchase of molo softwall.

Designed by Stephanie Forsythe + Todd MacAllen, your new softwall partition can be used for creative and aesthetically pleasing freestanding partitioning in your decor. And it can be done entirely without tools or internal structures. The instructions below contain steps that together ensure the stability and durability of the screen. We therefore recommend sharing this page with everyone who handles your softwalls. As a part of our service, we also invite you to share photos of your completed installation with us. This allows us to provide further guidance if necessary.

Rounded edge facing down to the floor

All softwalls have rounded edges, which minimizes wear and provides visual lightness. Therefore, ensure that your new softwall is oriented so that the rounded edges is at the bottom and the sharp corners are at the top.

Lift while stretching and arranging

When you open a softwall for the first time, or if it has been folded for a while, it is beneficial to stretch it by pulling it out to a length of up to 9 meters and holding it there for just over a minute. This process can be repeated. After stretching, your softwall can stand at its maximum length of 4.5 meters. Stretching is done with open end panels by having two people each hold onto two inner tunnels with a couple of fingers in each.

When stretching the softwall or rearranging its position, lift the end of the screen about 3 cm off the floor. This helps with a light, fluid movement and prevents the slats from pulling and bending toward the floor. If you wish to arrange the middle, it is also beneficial to gently lift the sides.

Close the magnetic end panels

This third step is critical for stability. Magnets hidden in each end panel serve to keep the end panels closed. They close like a book, creating a nice rounding that also hides the inner tunnels. This is an integral part of the design and allows the freestanding screen to remain stable.

Extend the softwall if needed

If the full softwall length of about 4.5 meters is not enough, two or more softwalls can be connected to form longer configurations. This is done simply by opening the magnetic end panels and clicking several softwalls together. Similarly, it is also possible to connect three or four softwall partitions at the same point, creating crosses or T-junctions.

Connect the softwall to fixed walls

If you want your softwall to connect tightly to fixed walls in your decor, this is a third application of the magnetic end panels. For this purpose, we offer molo’s white self-adhesive steel strips, or you can establish another ferromagnetic surface yourself. Steel plates with a minimum thickness of 1.5 mm are usually suitable. Note that stainless steel is not magnetic.
