Selective testing of acoustic felt has proven to be a dangerous illusion of fire safety...

Fire safety is a natural part of any responsible construction and interior design process. As a construction consultant, architect, or interior designer, you should always feel confident that the fire certificates for the chosen materials are in order. That is why Swiss Impact Acoustic® has also conducted fire tests on all variants of their acoustic PET felt, ARCHISONIC® Felt. A full 82% passed at the highest class (B-s1,d0), while the remaining 18% received certification for the second-highest class (B-s2,d0).

The difference that suggests a serious problem

With the comprehensive fire test, Impact Acoustic® also demonstrated that thickness, color, and density influence how acoustic PET felt behaves in a fire. That is why it was relevant to test all variants. However, a review of other PET felt providers' documentation revealed that most typically only test a single color and then use the test as documentation for all colors. Given Impact's knowledge that color, for example, makes a difference, this could be quite a serious issue.

Of course, we cannot rule out that we have overlooked a provider with the same level of documentation as Impact. To ensure that your construction or interior project complies with regulations, we recommend that you, for good measure, request the fire certificate for the specific color and thickness from your PET felt supplier.
